Comforting Creatures

Fees – 10.14.07

There are fees associated with becoming a member of the Delta Society.  These fees cover the evaluations, classroom or home study work, and registration.  There are no fees for the local affiliation, Northern Indiana Pet Partners-Comforting Creatures—just your participation!!

Here are the fees to date:

Evaluation--$10

This fee goes directly to the evaluator that we bring in once or twice a year.  Our group covers the evaluator’s gas, hotel, and food expenses.  We normally get donations throughout the year to help cover these fees.  Any donations are always appreciated and accepted.  This fee will be paid at the time of the evaluation. You will be asked to re-evaluate your animal every 2 years.

Classroom or Home Study - $37.50

In the past, we were able to offer classroom instruction that covered all aspects of the team training.  These included topics like How to present your animal to different type of patients, Universal precautions, Privacy issues, etc.  As we have noted, some of the requirements have changed, and we don’t have instructors at this time.  However, we have two people that will be qualified in the future to give this class. In the meantime, you will have to purchase the workbook, and complete it as a home study course.  This course prepares you through lessons and activities on selecting and preparing animals for visits, identifying and decreasing stress in animals, animal health and safety, special needs of client groups, interacting with special people, facility health and safety codes, patient confidentiality and more. The Pet Partners Team Training manual includes the necessary registration materials. Successful completion of this course satisfies the handler training requirement for the Pet Partners Program.  We have some books available, and we will have them on hand during the evaluation days.  They can be purchased directly from Delta or from the Northern Indiana Pet Partners. This class (and expense) is only taken once.

Pet Partner Affiliate Group Member registration - $50

This is the registration fee to the Delta Society.  The Pet Partner Affiliate Group registration fee is for two years and includes support from your local group, your pet’s visiting identification tag, your volunteer identification badge, and a subscription to Interactions magazine. This fee is every two years, and also covers the 1 million dollar primary liability insurance policy that covers you and your team member.

Pet Partner Vest: - $35.00

As an affiliate group of the Delta Society, we decided to have each partner team should have the approved Delta “vest” for your pet partner.  These vests can be purchased through the Delta Society’s web site after you become a pet partner.  They have several sizes.  The vest is the preferred “uniform” for the animal, but some animals will not accept the vest.  In that case, we can make arrangements for an identifying scarf for the animal.

If you desire to be a part of our group, and the above costs are prohibitive to you, please contact us, and we’ll work something out. Having you as a productive member of our group with a loving animal is more important than fees—we’ll find a way to help you.

If you want to register more than one pet, or have other members of your family certify with your animal, different fee structures are in place.  You can find out more about these specific types of fees by visiting the Delta Society’s page on registration:
